Yule log

The Yule log is a festive dessert shaped like a log of wood, traditionally a rolled sponge filled with buttercream and streaked with a fork to imitate bark. Served in France at the Christmas Eve meal, it evokes the log once burned in the hearth on Christmas night. Contemporary versions reinterpret it as frozen or moulded mousses flavoured with chocolate, chestnut or fruit.
