Table runner

A table runner is a narrow strip of fabric laid lengthwise along the table, either over the cloth or in its place. In contemporary luxury dining it emphasises the central axis of the setting and carries the floral decoration, candlesticks or centrepiece. Frequently made of linen, silk or embroidered material, it introduces a note of colour or texture while leaving the tabletop partly visible, a look often favoured on the individual tables of modern palace restaurants.
