Syrah (Shiraz)

Syrah is a red grape native to the northern Rhone Valley, where it shapes the wines of Hermitage and Cote-Rotie. Known as Shiraz in Australia, it produces deeply coloured, structured wines with firm tannins and aromas of blackberry, black pepper, olive and smoked meat. Cool climates sharpen its peppery edge, while warmer regions coax out riper, jammy and chocolate-tinged notes of remarkable depth.
