Stalactite vault

An Islamic ornamental vault formed of tiered muqarnas hanging in clusters that suggest stalactites or honeycomb cells. Executed in stucco, plaster or wood, it dresses domes, niches and the transitions between a square plan and a circular cupola. This geometric tour de force, a summit of Eastern decorative art, crowns the ceremonial salons of palaces reconverted into luxury hotels across the Maghreb and the Levant, dazzling on arrival.
