Sqala
A fortified bastion of the Moroccan coast, fitted with a gun platform facing the sea. The sqala protected ports and coastal cities such as Essaouira and Rabat from maritime incursions. Now integrated into the urban heritage, it offers ramparts walks and panoramic terraces. Certain hotels set themselves against these historic fortifications to provide unobstructed ocean views, turning a defensive structure into a scenic asset for guests.
