Silky tannins
Silky tannins describe a tannic texture perceived as smooth, fine and enveloping in the mouth, free of roughness or grip. This sensation stems from good phenolic ripeness in the grape and from careful ageing, which polymerise the tannins and round their grain. Set against grainy or drying tannins, they often mark great cellaring reds at their peak, where structure melds with fruit without ever hardening the finish.
