A player whose handicap is zero, capable of regularly returning scores at or below the course par. Scratch status reflects a very high amateur standard, attained by only a minority of golfers. It serves as the reference point in calculating the handicaps of other players. Competitions hosted by country clubs and golf resorts frequently feature a dedicated scratch category reserved for this elite tier of accomplished competitors.
