Sangiovese
Sangiovese is the flagship red grape of Tuscany, forming the backbone of Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. An early-budding, late-ripening variety, it produces wines of bright acidity and grippy tannins, marked by sour cherry, plum and savoury notes of earth and leather. Its sensitivity to place makes it Italy's most widely planted grape and a faithful mirror of terroir.
