Rheingau

Rheingau refers to a German wine region set along the Rhine, west of Frankfurt, renowned for its rieslings and pinot noirs. Compared with those of the Mosel, its wines show more body, structure and firm minerality. The Rheingau holds the earliest documented plantings of riesling, dating to 1435, and the Schloss Johannisberg estate is credited with the discovery of the late harvest style, a milestone in the history of sweet German wine.
