Resort fee

A resort fee (also called property fee, destination fee, or amenity fee) is a mandatory daily charge added to your hotel bill on top of the advertised room rate. Most common in US destinations, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Florida, Caribbean resorts, Mexico, and ranging from $25 to $150 per night. It supposedly covers Wi-Fi, gym, pool, local calls, sometimes newspapers and partial food/drink credits. The practice is controversial because it hides the true price when comparing on Booking or Expedia. A Federal Trade Commission rule announced in late 2024 requires all-in pricing be displayed upfront across the US starting 2026. Until then: when comparing rates, always check for a resort fee and add it to the advertised price.
