Private villa

A private villa is a freestanding house within a resort, your own entrance, your own pool, your own garden walled off from other guests, your own kitchen and dining room, and often a dedicated team (butler, chef, housekeeper, sometimes a personal trainer). It's the top tier of the resort hierarchy, well above any suite. Aman invented the all-villa resort concept in 1988 with Amanpuri in Phuket; today Cheval Blanc, Six Senses, Bulgari and One&Only all do it. Pricing: Cheval Blanc Maldives villas run around €12,000 a night, Necker Island (Branson's private island) is around $100,000 a night for the whole place. The big benefit: you can have your kids running around naked and no other guest sees them.
