Pouilly-Fumé
Pouilly-Fumé is a Centre-Loire appellation, on the right bank of the river in the Nièvre department, around Pouilly-sur-Loire, facing Sancerre. It is dedicated solely to dry white wines from sauvignon, here sometimes called blanc fumé. Its flint soils give the wines mineral gunflint notes and a fine tension. It should not be confused with Pouilly-Fuissé, a chardonnay appellation located in Burgundy far to the east.
