Mindfulness meditation
Mindfulness meditation is the practice of bringing non-judgmental attention to the present moment, originating in Buddhist meditation traditions (vipassana) and popularized in the West by Jon Kabat-Zinn's MBSR program (1979). It's now backed by extensive scientific research showing benefits for stress, anxiety, sleep, and focus. At luxury wellness retreats, expect daily guided meditation sessions (typically 30-60 minutes), often at sunrise and sunset, sometimes led by trained instructors with monastic experience. Some properties offer multi-day silent retreats (3-10 days), where you eat, walk, and reflect in silence. What to bring: comfortable loose clothing, a journal, and an open mind. No prior experience needed. Costs: silent retreats run 200-800 EUR per day. Helpful for jet lag, work burnout, and major life transitions.
