Médoc

Médoc refers to the wine peninsula on the left bank of the Gironde, north of Bordeaux, celebrated for reds built on cabernet sauvignon blended with merlot. Its deep gravel soils provide ideal drainage. The area holds the great communal appellations and most of the châteaux ranked in the 1855 classification, yielding tannic, structured reds designed for extended cellar ageing over many years.
