Maipo Valley

Maipo Valley refers to a wine region in Chile, near Santiago, often nicknamed the Bordeaux of South America. It is celebrated for rich, structured cabernet sauvignons, as well as carménère, a Bordeaux grape rediscovered in Chile. The higher altitude sectors such as Puente Alto and Pirque, set against the Andes, benefit from alluvial soils and marked temperature swings that favour dense, elegant reds with firm structure and ageing potential.
