Lorenz Adlon

Lorenz Adlon (1849-1921), born in Mainz, prospered in Berlin as a wine merchant and restaurateur before turning to hospitality. In 1905 he acquired two buildings on Unter den Linden to erect his palace. The Hotel Adlon opened on 23 October 1907, inaugurated by Emperor Wilhelm II, and became the social centre of the German capital.
