Ladies served first

Ladies served first refers to the protocol convention of serving female guests before men, beginning with the guest of honour seated to the host's right. Service then progresses counterclockwise around the table and ends with the host himself. Still observed at formal palace dinners, this courtesy grants the lady of honour first choice from an untouched platter, a mark of deference rooted in classic European dining tradition.
