Knife rest

A knife rest is a small support set to the right of the plate, on which the blade of the knife lies so that it does not soil the tablecloth between courses. Made of crystal, porcelain, silver or metal, it takes varied forms, from a plain bar to animal figures. On fine dining tables it appears mainly at meals where the same knife is kept from one dish to the next, preserving the cleanliness of the linen.
