Junior suite

A junior suite is the in-between category, bigger than a regular hotel room, smaller than a full suite. The bedroom and the lounge area are in the same open space, but clearly separated by furniture, screens or a step in level. Usually 35 to 55 square meters at urban luxury hotels. The category was invented by chains like Marriott and Hilton in the 1970s to fill the price gap between a standard room and a full suite, and it stuck. Practical use: junior suites cost about 30-50% more than a standard room but give you about 60% more space, which is great for trips of 3-5 nights when you want a sofa and a desk but don't need separate rooms.
