Henri Negresco
Henri Negresco (1870-1920), a Romanian-born hotelier from Bucharest, ran the municipal casino of Nice before conceiving his own palace. Built by architect Édouard Niermans on the Promenade des Anglais, the Hotel Negresco opened on 4 January 1913. Ruined after lending his hotel as a hospital during the First World War, he died in Paris in 1920.
