Hand engraving

Craft of incising metal by hand with a burin to trace motifs, monograms or textures. Engraving adds relief and light to an otherwise smooth surface and personalises the piece. It differs from mechanical guilloché by the freedom of the hand. Palace high jewellery workshops use it for dedications, coats of arms and the ornamentation of bespoke creations commissioned by their clients.
