Ellsworth Milton Statler

Ellsworth Milton Statler (1863-1928), an American who started as a bellboy at thirteen, opened in Buffalo in 1907 the first major hotel with a private bathroom in every room. His motto, the customer is always right, and his comfort innovations founded standardised modern hospitality. In the 1920s his Statler hotels formed the largest portfolio owned by a single individual.
