Douro (Port)

Douro refers to a wine region in northern Portugal, the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, regulated since 1756 and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It produces port, a fortified wine made from indigenous grapes such as touriga nacional, touriga franca and tinta roriz. The vines rise in schist terraces along the Douro river, and the region increasingly earns acclaim for its dry unfortified table wines as well.
