Diamond cutter

Craftsman specialising in the cutting and polishing of rough diamond, a trade distinct from the lapidary who works coloured stones. The diamond cutter studies the rough, plans the cleaving or sawing, then shapes the facets to maximise brilliance and yield. This work governs the quality of the cut, one of the four criteria of the 4Cs. Such skill underpins the value of diamonds in palace windows.
