Diamond clarity
Criterion assessing the absence of internal inclusions and surface blemishes, examined under tenfold magnification. The Gemological Institute of America scale runs from Flawless, with no visible flaws, to Included, where inclusions are obvious to the eye. Between these lie the VVS, VS and SI grades. High clarity accounts for a substantial share of the price of pieces displayed in palace boutiques.
