Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an appellation in the southern Rhône Valley, near Avignon, celebrated for its generous reds based on grenache, often completed by syrah and mourvèdre. Its rules permit a broad range of grape varieties. The famous rolled pebbles covering the soils store the day's heat and release it at night. It was one of the first officially recognised appellations of origin in France, from 1936.
