Cancellation policy
A cancellation policy tells you the deadline and fees if you cancel a hotel booking. The main types: "Free cancellation" or "Flexible" (cancel up to 24-48 hours before arrival at no charge), "Moderate" (free until 7-14 days out, then partial charge), "Strict" (free until 30 days out, then one night or full charge), and "Non-refundable" (you pay in full upfront, no refunds at all). Always check the policy BEFORE booking, it's usually shown at checkout. Non-refundable rates can save 15-25% but carry real risk if plans change. During peak periods (Fashion Week, Christmas, major events), cancellation windows extend to 60-90 days. Travel insurance can cover cancellations for covered reasons (illness, work emergency), though specifics vary by policy.
