Cahors
Cahors is a Southwest France appellation, in the Lot department, along the eponymous valley, dedicated to red wines in which malbec must make up at least seventy percent of the blend, completed by merlot and tannat. Locally, malbec goes by the name côt or auxerrois. On alluvial terraces and limestone plateaus, it yields dark, deep and structured reds, long nicknamed black wines for their intense colour.
