Bourbon

Bourbon refers to an American whiskey whose grain bill must contain at least fifty-one percent corn and which ages in new, charred oak barrels. Recognised as a distinctive product of the United States by Congress in 1964, it yields notes of vanilla, caramel and toasted wood. Its sweet roundness makes it the base of the old fashioned, the whiskey sour and the mint julep.
