Ballet master

The person responsible for transmitting, maintaining and rehearsing works within a dance company. The ballet master memorises the choreography and staging, rehearses soloists and corps de ballet, and gives the daily class. As guardian of the company's repertoire memory, he ensures the coherence of revivals. His work underpins the quality of the ballets proposed to palace guests, preserving each production faithfully from one performance to the next.
