Bab gateway

The monumental gate of a medina or fortified enclosure, the bab marks the ceremonial entrance to a city or palace. Often flanked by towers and ornamented with horseshoe arches, zellij and inscriptions, it symbolises passage and power. Gates such as Bab Agnaou in Marrakech are major heritage landmarks. Certain luxury hotels establish themselves near these historic thresholds, anchoring their address to a recognisable monument and storied location.
